So, The area drayton have cleared is 5100m^2 according to google earth. Some preliminary research reveals that this fits quoted dimensions for, in no particular order:
- Vekoma Family launch coaster
- Vekoma Family coaster Horus and Kalypso
- Vekoma Family suspended coaster 450
- Vekoma Family suspended coaster 400
- Vekoma suspended family coaster Phoenix
- Zamperla Lightning coaster 568 & 375
- The Smiler at Alton Towers
- RMC 100ft Raptor

Now that would be a sight indeed.
It is also worth noting that this is only for publicly available quoted dimensions, and The Smiler is in the list by way of a good, known comparison.

The white frame is most likely the carrier for the temporary fencing. I expect the wooden frames will be work walls similar to those outside the thomas flume.

Clearly aiming to use the whole of the evacuated space from the map extract. Seems to suggest that this will be quite a "statement" ride.

Good. Drayton need a big "thing" to get them on the map again. Despite adventure cove and vikings, most people still think, even local people in fact, that drayton is a run down funfair and still looks like it did in 2019. They need a big marketable thing to get fairly decent attention to them, to attract people back.

Good to see the trees been cleared. Not sure what’s going on with the toilet block as it’s out of use currently so I wonder if it’s also going.

I just presumed it was too hard too keep access to the block and keeping the construction site secure.
This is my guess for the time being - Its a good location to have toilets really so I'm guessing they'll stick around.

i'd like my toilet block to be themed to be a nice, clean toilet block.
I'm not sure I particular want to go for the wild west, rural 19th century Bavarian bierkeller or Norse Longhouse toilets.

I won’t lie I was hoping we would get an Intamin Hot Racer or a new Vekoma. Ah well, it’s 12 years so I’ll welcome any additional coaster to the park.

I do think they got to get this coaster right as with Pandemonium 1.4m and Apocalypse 1.2m/1.4m been removed for this coaster they need the fans of theses rides to think that was worth the wait. Also when you look at past construction time lines.
Shockwave all the footers around the rapids site were installed during Splash Canyon’s construction with the others going in November/December 1993 with the Coaster opening in March 1994
G-Force Klondike and the tea cups were removed at the end of the 2004 season with the coaster opening July 2005
Ben 10 the Sombreros and the band stand were removed at the end of the 2010 season and it opened less than 6 months later mid April 2011.
With this coaster Apocalypse started to come down the following day after the main season finished and 5 months later they still removing trees and doing basic ground clearing. Is the boarding up yet? Not going to the park this weekend but booked in for the 15th April.

I agree with you. But there is the counter suggestion that by removing the higher height rides they are actually saying that it is a "market" that they aren't intending to deliberately cater to.
Personally though to me every points to a big thing!! at a time where there has been a lot of investment anyway this development has always had the feel of being the signature ride. Especially as it has replaced Apocolypse which literally towered above most things when considering the park in the minds of people.

I’ve been really slow about this whole thing. Turns out the Zamperla tape was nothing more than a leftover piece from the vikings area.
We won’t know for months what this new coaster will be, as painstaking as that may sound. Whilst not the best option broadly speaking, if I had to choose a thrill coaster for that space that could live up to ‘one of the best in the UK’, easily making it to top 5, I’d say an RMC Raptor. It’s got a 1.2m height restriction and more than makes up for the loss of thrill with Pandemonium and Apocalypse gone.
The two main reasons against it is sound pollution from the lift hill which can be fixed either by substituting the lift for a launch or working alongside Vekoma again to minimise the lift noise just like they did with Wildfire. The other being that Raptors are just pure thrill. The only way they can really be identified as ‘family’ thrill is either by judging their small size or short height restriction, even though the experience itself is more intense than their 120ft tall Intamin coaster.
