None of the buttons on the e new exhibition were working yesterday - was not great to have such a static display as no trains were going around at all

I sometimes think being on static display is a good thing since the model can't get damaged again, even if they are replica models.

It's not good at all. Also Annie n Clarabel have been removed off the display

Given how new the exhibition is and that all of them seem to not be working, I would say its a more likely they aren't turned on
I don't think they'd be damaged this quickly.

My daughter tells me there was a train going round (just 1 - and on the back tracks) but the buttons did nothing. All the other trains were static - so don’t think it was “turned off” (although Winston was closed when we went up so maybe that affected it)

No because when I went Winston was closed and they were all running except Edward
