Thomas & Friends Exhibition

The Exhibition wasn’t very good today - only Rusty running, a crash and a derailment!
Excuse, but how did this happen with Edward? I have never seen Rusty work on his own before. The last time I did see the Exhibit, only Edward and James were working, but when I did get back to the Exhibit at the end of the day, only Edward did derail and James was the only one working. Henry was not working, Sir Handel was not working and Thomas was not working. Goodness me!

Well, Henry has been removed from the layout. Also, Thomas is now has two of the Troublesome Trucks with him and Annie and Clarabel are now in the siding where Spencer's Coach used to be behind 'Arry or Bert. The Coach was removed when Henry's model was given the old shape instead of the new one. And Edward is now running without any trucks now.
Let me explain. Edward is now running on the line that Henry did used to be on and he does now stop at Great Waterton. James is still where Henry did also used to be at The Docks where he was first put. Thomas is in the same spot at Maithwaite Station, but with two Troublesome Trucks, but he still does not operate and Toby is now running on the line Edward did used to be and he does now stop at Farmer McColl’s Farm. Annie and Clarabel Coaches are now in the siding where Spencer’s Special Coach did used to be behind Iron ‘Arry. Spencer’s Special Coach was removed in March 2024 when Henry‘s replica model was given his original shape instead of the new one. James has ran without anything before. But this is Edward’s first time running without anything.

Here are some photos that were taken on February 16 2024. No trains were running except for the Windmill.

A message to Elise.

I am puzzled. Can you help me please with posts or threads? Can you show me please?
When replying to multiple posts (posts being like the post of yours which I've replied to), please click "Reply" on each one if you are commenting on multiple and they will be included in the same reply.
It's okay :)

You can quote multiple posts in one post like this :) (said thread instead of post) - just press reply and it will add the comment into the post
Like this :)

It helps keep the forum clean & allows you to reply to different posts in one comment.

Hope this helps :)

I personally think they made a mistake having buttons. I feel like they should have set it all to a timer (like, lets say "engines run every 5 minutes") so they run but there isn't anything that could be broken by guests (e.g buttons)

It may also do the engines better (Im not sure, I'm no model railway expert - but surely there is a more reliable way to do it as other railways run pretty constant and don't have as many derailed issues?)

Buttons are great for interactive options but they spend a lot of time broken. I've observed them get a bit of abuse from guests too who have punched / smacked / pulled on them to try and make an engine go.

I feel like they need to enclose the top of the exhibit too (like a net on top) as too many times things have been tossed up and over... damaging the exhibit (and engines)

Yes, I do some modelling and it is odd to see them derailed so frequently, it looks like either the track has been laid horribly, or the radii of the curves are too tight for the engines? It seems very odd though.

I think it’s due to the fact he goes a bit fast

Its not too bad though, anyone who has had a hornby set, or perhaps an LGB set has flung a locomotive like that round without issue. My guess is that it is an issue with the tracks turning circle being too narrow for the engines, as the track seems to ride well. I believe the new exhibition is narrower thatn the old one which would limit curvatures, although I cant definitely verify the differrent sizes.
