The Wave (formerly known as Shockwave)

So… The Wave. In terms of the ride, I really enjoyed it and it’s a massive improvement from Shockwave. Surprisingly the coaster stays smooth throughout, and is fairly comfortable to ride. However, I also agree with what most people are saying, which is that a second train is needed. The restraints also aren’t great, with ride ops having to push them down for people to avoid them breaking and-or being damaged.

The new theming for the ride is really good, the head-chopper billboard looks pretty neat and the surfboards and posters dotted around the station are really nice.

Unfortunately, the new pieces of theming and paint job are let down by the rest of the queue line - which is in quite a poor state. The best way I can describe it is that the decorators have done their job well, but the cleaners haven’t even turned up. The amount of cobwebs on the ceiling and windows, paired with old theming pieces which don’t match at all (random lanterns being the main one) really let down the rest of the ride.

Apart from that however, The Wave is great and the park have done a very good job (for the most part)

I enjoyed this. Although the coaster is no smoother than it was before, the lack of anything to bash your head into gives the appearance of a smoother ride.

All the bumps and jolts are in exactly the same place as before. Having ridden the ride thousands of times they are seared into muscle memory. It is a big improvement for sure. But the thing is no smoother than it was. Even the mid loop jolts, something which used to be brutal on your head, still nocks you side to side like before.

That said, the ride is enjoyable now because the roughness is very tolerable due to your upper body being free.

Rode it on the 11th May, cant comment on the queue as ride access pass but I have to say it feels a lot more comfortable and you can see why they are advertising this as the uk most thrilling family coaster.

It’s broke down again on the bottom of the lift hill

Had a brilliant ride on the wave today. Due to queueing on the accessibility side today, I noticed the light system for each seat which I thought was fascinating. It’s definitely a complex system that requires each light to turn from red to green. I also noticed today whilst waiting, after they lower the seat half way and tell you to wait , the platform then lowers before the ride ops lock each restraint into place.

The lights are Go-No Go sensors. Each light corresponds to a restraint, and they will only illuminate green and clear the ride if the sensor detects the restraint is in the "Minimum verification position" I.E, the minimum closure for it to safely lock and restrain a rider. The restraints combine 2 differrent locking mechanisms, a hydraulic lock, and a mechanical ratchet lock. They lower the restraint halfway first to verify the hydraulics work, and then have to move the ratchet through 2 clicks when that locks to independently verify both systems. The platform dropping are the paddles to release the ratchets beign drawn away to engage the mechanical lock.

The restraints are now fully lowered by staff in one go, and I believe can now be pulled down by riders. Worth not pulling it to tight though, as sometimes they have to push it an extra click to clear, and this stapled a couple of people on the ride today. Dispatch cycle was down to about 3 minutes from a train arriving to leaving.

That’s a massive improvement as on Monday they wasn’t doing it this way.

Faster dispatch is definitely welcomed as the queue for it is still quite long at busy points.

I'm glad it's so popular though from what I've seen and heard, it's been a hit

Solid queue to the door for it allk day today, we went on it first thing fortunately, so we were on the first train of the day. The batcher was working hard to fill the train, very few empty seats all day.

Sounds like a massive improvement.

Are they still leaving the back row empty?

A teacher training day meant we were able to visit the park today and really get to grips with the revamped Wave.

We had six rides over about 10 cycles. We were able to walk on all but one ride. The last occasion we were able to stay on (And could have done again but 3 times round....!)

Now what was noticable from these rides, on rows 2, 3, 5, & 6 was how different the ride felt in different seats. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this or whether it is just differences between the different rides? Or am I just loopy?

During this series of rides there was one period of down time, for about 15 minutes or so.

It definitely feels different depending on the seats :)
The back feels more forceful - back left especially

Back left defiantly more forceful going through the final two inversions. As those appear to the the RAP seats now it's become a regular occurrence for me!
