Gold Rush (New for 2024)

Heard today from multiple sources (there are many when you live so close to the park, as so many local people are connected to the park in one way or another) that the aim is to have this ready in around 6 week time.

The water dummies seem to be getting flung about a fair bit, so quite forceful, and its only half loaded so I reckon it's going to be a decent little escapade. It will feel faster riding it backwards anyway.

Here come some photos :) queueline and theming going in and we caught it testing too!

I have a few clips of that to put together but I can say the clips do not do it justice. It looks so much better in person and from what I saw? I'm really excited. This is going to be a surprise favourite for some I think!

That last photo is a piece of recycled theming that sat next to Shockwaves entrance, as seen below.

It is looking really good. I'll reserve full judgement until it opens. There appears that there is only one or two unique peice of theming so far though. I'm sure more will come.

Really looking forward to this actually.

It's funny because this piece of theming was itself a recycled Whale Oil boiler, which was played around with by Shockwave/Splash Canyon's designers, Golding leisure design, in the early 90s. The only boilers I could find which look remotely similar are located in Antarctica, pictured below.

They used old agricultural equipment and machinary to create a lot of the Shockwave and Splash Canyon theming, which they took apart and redesigned in to effects. If you remember, some of those effects included:
  • A large cannister which was fitted on to the end of a crane, just after you left the shed part of the ride (which trickled out water, and was turned off and repositioned at some point in the mid 2000s). It is still on site surprisingly. I wonder if this could also be moved in to the coaster area
  • and also a large pipe at the end fitted to a 'mining company' themed building that used to drop water on people. Which was also turned off years before Splash Canyon closed, and was removed in 2020.

The boiler has now been recycled twice, it seems...
At least it fits in with the new coasters theme!
